LAS VEGAS (April 24, 2014)
? Mandalay Bay Events Center welcomes the Professional Bull Riders back to Las Vegas May 9 – 10 for the 4th
Annual Last Cowboy Standing, part of the 2014 Built Ford Tough Series. Tickets are now on sale, starting at $20, and can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com
or www.mandalaybay.com, by calling 800-745-3000 or in person at the Mandalay Bay ticket office.
Last Cowboy Standing kicks off Friday, May 9 at 8 p.m. and continues Saturday, May 10 at 6 p.m. The toughest bull riders in the sport will go up against their four-legged opponents at more than 10 times their weight, as one-by-one they are eliminated until only a single man remains.
The format is as follows: the Top 50 bull riders in the world – the largest field ever on the BFTS – will tackle the rankest bucking bulls in the industry, striving to make the 8-second buzzer. If a rider stays on his bull for the required 8 seconds, he continues to compete. If he gets bucked off, he is finished. The cowboys will continue to ride until the end of the night when the “Last Cowboy Standing” will be declared the winner and take home a check for $100,000.
For the past two years, two-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves has been crowned the Last Cowboy Standing. He will attempt to defend his title again this year riding alongside current No. 1 ranked bull rider and 2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi, 2004 World Champion Mike Lee, reigning World Champion J.B. Mauney, rookies Gage Gay and Tanner Byrne, as well as Nevada native Markus Mariluch. With a total event purse of $170,000 up for grabs, these men will be holding on for dear life to earn their share of the pot.
In addition to great bull riders competing in Las Vegas, two-time PBR World Champion Bull Bushwacker, arguably the greatest PBR bull of all time, will make the first of his last two Las Vegas appearances during the two-day event. In 2013, he was joined by other bovine talent including 2012 World Champion Bull Asteroid, as well as Smackdown, Shepherd Hills Tested and Rango.
Last Cowboy Standing is the last stop of the first half on the 2014 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The season will conclude in Las Vegas with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals on Oct. 22-26 when the 2014 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most total points during the 2014 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and $1 million bonus.
The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
